הבנק המרכזי של סין הוסיף רשמית +20 טון של זהב במהלך חודש יולי, הרכישה החודשית הגדולה ביותר שלו מאז אוקטובר 2023.

זאת לאחר רכישה של +15 טון ו-+10 טון ביוני ובמאי.

China has been accumulating gold for a while now while also divesting away from US treasury bonds. It's part of a larger policy to establish a Yuan-denominated gold trading.

This allows China to encourage trade settlements in Yuan

(you sleep better holding Yuans when you know you'll be able to exchange them to gold)

and by you I mean Russia, Iran the Gulf nations, etc

it's part of a much bigger move of de-dollarization by Russia, China and the rest of the Brics+

This also answers the move of gold reserve to HK. HK is still a separate legal system so there is more trust in it. They're also establishing a SGEI valut in Saudia Arabia for the same reason.

They've set up a system to allow converting digital Yuans (e-CNY) to gold-backed certs.

they're really lightyears ahead of most of the western world

The step of moving gold physically in uncertain times comes from the history actually when governments prefer to allocate gold into their own hands and jurisdictions 👀

but allocating into their own hands and jurisdictions would mean moving the gold the other way around (from HK to mainland China). Also, China is building vaults in Saudia Arabia and Malaysia to physically move some of their gold there.

gold backed ETF's serve the same purpose of establishing the yuan as a credible alternative to the greenback

it also makes China sanction proof: vaults abroad and a gold back collateral system provide China's trade partners risk mitigation (from sacntions) with a non-sactionable asset that you can convert your Yuan into. M-bridge makes that conversion easy.
